Overland AZ (overlandaz.net) is run by Josh, an Arizona-based overlander. This page explains what information the site collects, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have. If you have a question, email josh@overlandaz.net.
What we collect
- Email signups. When you subscribe for trip reports and GPS tracks, we collect your email address and, if you enter it, your first name. This is handled by our email provider, Kit.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, WordPress stores your name, email address, website (if entered), comment and IP address.
- Emails you send us. If you contact us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
- Usage data. Like most websites, we collect information about how the site is used: pages viewed, the site that referred you, your general location (city or region), device and browser type. This comes from Google Analytics and from standard server and security logs.
How we use it
- To send the trip report emails and GPS downloads you signed up for.
- To reply to messages and moderate comments.
- To understand which content is useful so we can make more of it.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files your browser stores. This site uses:
- Google Analytics cookies (such as
_ga) to count visits and see how people find and use the site. Google may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. - Embedded content from YouTube and Instagram. When a page shows a video or feed from those services, they may set their own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies.
- Affiliate and partner links. Some links to gear and partner brands are affiliate links. If you click one, the brand or its affiliate network may use cookies to credit the sale to Overland AZ.
- Necessary cookies used by WordPress, our caching and our security tools to keep the site working.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so this site does not currently change its behavior when it receives one. You can still use the cookie and opt-out options above.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the services that help run the site:
- Kit, for email subscriptions (Kit privacy policy)
- Google, for Analytics and Search Console (Google privacy policy)
- YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, for embedded content and social links
- Our web host and security providers, which process server logs to keep the site running and protected
- Brand partners and affiliate networks, only through the link-tracking described above
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask for a copy, correction or deletion of the information we hold about you by emailing josh@overlandaz.net. We will respond within 30 days.
- Control cookies through your browser or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
How long we keep it
Subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Comments are kept as long as they are published. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics retention settings.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning outdoor trips. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
